Young Catholics from across Cameroon are gathering in Bertoua for National Youth Day 2026, an encounter placing faith, formation and contemporary challenges at the centre of the Church’s youth ministry
Taking place from 21 to 26 July in the Ecclesiastical Province of Bertoua, the national gathering brings together young Catholics from across the country’s five ecclesiastical provinces under the theme, “Take courage! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33)
The event goes beyond a large religious gathering
Through catechesis, Eucharistic celebrations, adoration, confession, cultural activities, sports and manual work, the Church is seeking to connect faith with the realities of young people’s lives
The programme also addresses questions about vocation, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, culture and social responsibility
For a generation facing uncertainty about its future, these questions are increasingly central to pastoral accompaniment

A national gathering with a wider mission
National Youth Day 2026 also highlights the national character of the Catholic Church in Cameroon
The country’s Catholic Church is organised into five ecclesiastical provinces and 26 dioceses
The gathering brings young Catholics from across this national structure to the Ecclesiastical Province of Bertoua
Delegations are hosted in the Archdiocese of Bertoua and the dioceses of Batouri and Doumé-Abong-Mbang before converging in Bertoua for the main celebrations
This arrangement gives the event both a national and local dimension
It creates space for prayer and formation
It also allows young people from different parts of Cameroon to encounter one another and experience the diversity of the country’s Catholic community
